Being Grown Up Isn’t Half as Fun as Growing Up….

At what point do I consider myself a grown up? Is it when I move out of the house? Is it when I start my career? Is it when I buy my own house? Or maybe it’s when I get married or when I have kids? I have been thinking about this a lot. I am 26 years old…I am older than I have ever been in my life ( haha punny…)  but I still do not feel like I’m a grown up. Maybe I never will and maybe I’m ok with that J but should I feel like a grown up? I don’t feel any different today than I did at 21. The only difference is the people and what I am doing with my life. I have accomplished more at this point… is that when I’m a grown up? When I have some accomplishments that I can claim?
I was listening to the song by the Atari’s (it’s on the play list on the bottom of my blog right now if you want to listen to it…) it’s called This Diary… and the line that I love from the chorus says “being grown up isn’t half as fun as growing up, these are the best days of our life!”   I think that I would have to say that my last couple of years have been the best of my life… so does that mean that I am still growing up?
This whole thought process was brought up by the fact that I am going to have my high school reunion in a next year and a apart of me is like ewwww no I don’t wanna go to that! What do I have to show for my last 10 years of life! In fact, if you ask any of my friends from home they will tell you that I have a really hard time with my birthdays because I feel like I just wasted another year of my life…but I have been thinking lately that I have had some pretty awesome experiences in my life!
1.       I went to cooking school
2.       I lived in san Francisco for a year
3.       I worked in a warehouse (not a lot of women can say that!)
4.       I am forklift certified

5.       I am going to go to Disney world
6.       I am going to go to Miami
7.       I am going to be in a wedding in NYC
And all of those last 7 are going to happen just this summer. I used to think that I haven’t done anything with my life but I really have done some cool things and met some awesome people and seen some crazy things. I really think that even though I am not married and I don’t have any kids, I still have a lot to show for my last 10 years! I would have to agree that being grown up isn’t half as fun as growing up! And these really ARE the best days of our lives! It’s funny to me that while I was in the process of doing all of these things I was sad because I felt like I was stagnant….but clearly I was not! I guess that its true, we often take what we have for granted! I love growing up! And I’m so glad that I still have many more years of growing up to do! I never thought that my life would bring me to grad school at BYU but hey, anything is possible! And who knows what the next 10 years will bring!
THESE ARE THE BEST DAYS OF OUR LIVES!
